Discussion:
Forward/Reverse shifter problem.

I replaced the shifter assembly due to a broken grip. The truck now has a hard time finding neutral to crank or when putting it in neutral during travel. If you put a little pressure on the grip you can get neutral. It happens with different assemblies installed as well. Any ideas on what the issue could be? Thanks.

Did you figure out what the problem was? I have one doing the same thing, some times it stays in forward when you put it in neutral and other times when you go from reverse to neutral it will go to forward. It's a big safety issue in the plant I work in.

They have all been new switches. The switch well was wiped clean and dry. Apparently this truck has had this problem from day one years ago after replacing broken switches. But it was so infrequent the customer never brought it to my attention. Does anybody know what is in the dash that picks up the magnet signal?

I got 2 defective switches from TVH that did that. I think they have corrected the problem since but if it's clean in the hole as kevin suggested then it's probably the switch, if it worked ok with the old one. They have magnets in them that have to be the proper strength or they don't work right.

Could be a pin contact problem in the connector for the switch assembly or when you installing it its not being installed correctly.....can you take it out and plug in the connector and see if it works correctly that way....is the connector loose when plugged in...all pins straight and making good contact?
