Any dealership that I ever worked in that was any kind of major player in the market had a small stock of some common application equipment for primarily the service customers that had a piece of equipment that just wasnt worth fixing anymore and they needed a quick replacement and wanted to purchase right away.
As far as rentals it's smart to have a substantial rental fleet of modern up to date equipment. So when a customer rents one of them they can see the product and get a feel for it. This is a great tool for selling equipment also.
in my experience most large dealerships do stock and rent certain brands and models of equiptment, generally it is their mainline they sell that they generally capitolize on but i have seen where they would keep certain other brands available for sale or rent. Of course this all depends on what the current market in that area has a trend to sell, or what they think may be a viable product for thier consumers. They generally send out questionaire's to thier customers to see what thier applications and demands are to get a grasp on what is in demand or desired.
I am talking about a large dealership with a big brand.
It would depend on business model , if small service company then no. But if you are looking to sell or rent then yes
