Somehat disagree with Jamie:
1. This is Crowns first venture into ICE, solid tire forklifts which are predominately sold in North America - like 95% a few in Europe, mainly Germany, a few in Austrialia. So it seems they designed it for the market in which it will be sold. They have adressed some human factros vary nicely & a unque cooling system. Certainly time will tell on any new design.

2. Linde & it's hydrostatics have been in the US since the mid to late 70's. The concept has yet to catch on in a "big" way - the Linde is a "niche" market type machine. While the engines are taughted to go for 20,000 hours, a great majority of lift trucks acquired via a FMV lease or rental fleet finance programs - most of which are 5 years. At the end of the term the units are replaced and sold into teh second hand or used market with much less than 10,000 hours on them.

3. I believe the US lift truck market & auto industry learned a lot more from the Japanese in terms of quality & design at an "affordable" price than other area.

Just my opinion which is liek a navel everyone has one.

"Have An Exceptional Day!"
I think Jamie t has got it spot on right if the C-5 was hydrostatic it would be a real contender but as it is its
the basic's but different shape. With the environment and fuel efficiency take more of a role in customers minds
plus the lower cost is service then in 10 years Crown might catch on

Wow Crown have almost stepped into this millennium with the C-5. It has only taken them 10 years to catch up to the likes of Linde, Still and to a lesser degree Jungheinrich, but have still missed the mark with outdated practices. I think Crown would do well to take on board and learn from European standards. Just like the US car industry, they have not progressed passed the next level. A few new bells a whistles, but with much of the same on offer. The people in the videos should be given the offer to drive a Linde, then be re interviewed.

I forget who I gave a rash of crap to over the release of the C5 unit in this forum, its been a while. I just wanted them to know that I stand corrected. Got a chance to get a good look at one at the local factory store here in SoCal, and I must say I am very impressed. All diagnostics go thru the display, the cooling set-up, the really accessible engine compartment, and the fact that it's basically a diesel engine converted to LP. Rep said you could expect around 28000 hours out of the engines, also agree with the guy below who said his Veracitors ***. I hear you. I got around 9000 hours out of the 2.2 liter Mazda's before they needed to be rebuilt, and the mini-lever issue was actually a product improvement part from Yale that they forgot to mention to their customers. Just one mini lever sells for 1400.00$!!!! Give me a break, its not made for space travel, its just a hall effect switch!!!! I got into the wrong side of this buisness, should have sold parts!!!! Later.

Fix it right!!!
i work for crown in st paul, response has been great from customers so far.

Linde is 8-10 K higher on most there trucks and they still get market share. I see this truck doing fine but taking a good year or so to make a dent in the compeition.

we have veraciators running over 10,000 hours and running fine....fuel trim issues with yours maybe? or a plugged radiator getting to hot from time to time? currently running over 125 units full time 3 shifts...the only time a engine has been changed when a coolant leak happened and the operator baked it,,,c and d serial#s...yes the mini lever modules needed some repair but it was covered by warranty...and the mlms are holding up well....no steer axle troubles and no mast peening with overweight loads...yes way too many bells and whistles on a lift nowadays but it's all about ergonomics and driver comfort...Crowns major push every time a new model was created since the old sc/rc trucks of the 80's..the rc 3000 arm rest cushions, the rr 5000, driver antifatigue handle...and a big back cushion also a flip down seat with the big compartment unit and the sc 4000 series all ergonomic handles and 1200.00 suspension seat....crown was all about driver comfort as well........ergonomics is the #1 selling point since the mid/late 90's with everyone....anyways,the crown will see severe duty and lets see in 10,000 hours what it looks like..

Veraciators and fortis trucks run 7500 to 8000 hrs here and then promptly beat the seats out of the heads. In my opinion it has way to much extra junk on it.Why would you run your tale lamps through the vcm? They killed me on fingertip controls, but I think they got that fixed.A forklift needs to go up down back and forward. It dont need half the junk they bolt on them now.11 years ago everyone wanted the fastest forklift now all want them slowed down.Crown always had a great electric truck with great manuals compared to anyone else.If its like that Ill say its going to do well. But I hope they all keep breaking so I can keep eating.

Well guys I finally got a good look at the Crown C-5 that has the "On Demand Cooling" that they refer to. It's a hydraulic operated cooling fan mounted on the opposite side of the radiator from conventional systems. Every time the vehicle starts, it reverses and blows debris caught in the radiator due to the heavy suction from underneath the truck. I saw it used in a VERY dirty application, and the customer usually has to blow out their trucks at the start of every shift. The C-5 went for a week, and when the inspection screen was removed, there was absolutely no dirt in the radiator. -->And yes, it's American. Just like all Crown's it's made down in New Bremen, OH

--Just an opinion from some punk ruining the world--
I really liked working for crown...and i enjoyed working on their equipment...but as long as i'm a tech... i'll look at anything for design pluses or minuses you can guarantee the competetion does it every day...but still the crown looks like it will work nicely i want to see ot at 5 yrs and 21,000 hours like the hyster fortis and the yale veraciator but study the cost of ownership.....i bet the naaco product will be cheaper to maintain. how about longevity on the deere engine? we have veraciators that are over 10,000 on the original power train....lets see in 5 years......

Its so funny to see all these opinions and it is completley obvious that not many of them are unbiased! We all can see who works for Linde, Toyoya, Crown Yale etc etc.....the fact is the Crown does have many advancements over current lift truck designs and it will fit a specific client. By the way.....what is the service intervals on the Linde transmission and how much would it cost to replace one??
