Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) P8000:
F-16 code

Machine is throwing an f-16 code. Unit starts and runs fine but won't go into gear. I've found that the code means shift lever error. Wondering if anyone has encountered this and what could be the solution. Not sure yet if I need to replace the shift lever of if it's more involved. Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to let you know that we found our issue. We found a couple of wires going into the controler that had been chewed by a rodent. One wire was chewed at the controler plug and the other end of the wire was chewed right at the harness loom. Hope this helps.

I was following your post. Were you able to solve the issue? I'm experiencing the same thing.

Hour meter shows up just fine. After changing it the unit ran fine for about 45 minutes then started doing the same thing. Havenr recently installed a backup alarm, just has the original one.

at this time, after changing the f&R switch, does the hour meter ever show the hours after it starts, or does it just show this error? did it make any change at all?
f16 indicates both directions are sending the same signal to the computer for over 2 seconds..
did someone install a back up alarm?
you may be going to check 'pin to pin' from the directional switch to the ECM.

"it's not rocket surgery"
Well, changed fnr switch, changed oil and cleaned strainer (barely anything in it) and have traced all electrical. Checked all safety switches...can't figure this one out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Another quick question. I don't have the service manual for this unit. P8000 serial : AT4000240. How do you bleed the brakes? With the engine running or off? It has the wet brake system and we just changed the brake oil in the tank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
