Crown RD5020-30:
error codes 331; 814; 342; 343

got a crown deep reach cutting out during travel. the two times it did it for me i code error codes 331 and 814. checked error log and saw that there were two other codes 342, 343. found on here that the 331 pertains to the drive motor encoder more than likely having a break at the wires near the encoder. anyone here able to tell me what the others are?

irrk1 Re 331 code

Check drive motor for loose brush holders, brushes stuck or bad connections, weak brush springs. I have seen this before on high hour trucks.

Good luck

Does the drive motor have a sensor bearing inside the top of the motor, 4 wires that come from it

Before going any further sort out the battery. It amazes me how people will throw money at machines trying to sort a fault then mention the battery is just about toast. Any truck I get cutting out I allways check the battery first a poor battery can and will throw up all sorts of codes

cool thanks guys. now with the same truck i replaced the lift encoder and forward and reverse optic switches. i repined the plug to the drive motor encoder but the 331 is back along with 245,243,333,342, and the 814 popped back up. the battery is not in the best condition and smells of sulfur

f331 is traction encoder as already mentioned
F342 is traction pot not matching reverse switch
F343 is forward and reverse switch activated at same time ( usuallyt dirty opticl switch blow dust out at base of handle)
F814 is raise command but height encoder not increasing

331 is an traction encoder problem, make sure the encoder is tight via the set screw. Is it the old square encoder or new round style encoder? Also 814 i believe is associated to a battery code, check and make sure the battery is in good condition as well as topped off with water. A failing battery can cause traction and lift problems with any Access module trucks. Report back with you findings please.

You are right on the 331 code. If you already replaced the encoder and the problem is still there, then look at the wires in the plug on truck where encoder plugs in for a half broken wire. You may have to pull slightly on wire to check. I have also seen bad drive motors and bad brushes in drive motor pop up this code.
