Discussion:
crown sp3020

i have a crown unit that throws a code 217 every once in a while i have change both encoders and pcb board. some one told me that the display module cuts off the signal to the steer controller and replace it. Just want to confirm before purchasing. And yes i have the terminal hanset and set to the correct parameters.

thanks for the info richierich. It ended up being a intermitting signal lost from steer module to encoder. swapping the module took care of the problem. I will keep in mind for the future what you suggested thanks again.

If the module swap does not work for you. I have had a similar problem, it ended up being the upper drive unit bearing. Would need to drop the drive unit and remove the drive motor to have access to the pilot holes to remove bearing form power unit.

I have also replaced the k-5 relay no such luck. also check mast cables. It is one of the those fun intermitting deals. Check connections.

I would check the K5 relay(Part#100326) tip,and make sure they are not pitted/burnt. It's behind the plastic cover, just above the steer module.
