Im having an issue with a customers truck. It has been an ongoing intermittent problem for about a week now. I was just recently given the new task of working on a newer fleet of Raymond reach trucks and to be completely honest I am not very familiar with them yet. I have been mainly an LPG internal combustion mechanic for about 7 years now. Anyways, the issue that i am having right now is when the 4 way switch that controls the tilt up and down is pressed, the carriage reaches out and retracts as well as tilts. The sideshift works as it should with no problems. The issue has been happening off and on for about a week now. I tried to run learn mode on the control handle and just when it seems that everything is working, it happens again. Just wondering if anyone out there has encountered this problem in the past and if someone could possibly point me in the right direction as far as diagnosis goes. Thanks...

Extra wires are added from factory for camera options, switches...etc. What's inside the OM cable doesn't matter. The OUTSIDE diameter must be the same as OEM. If too small, the factory plastic clamps will allow the smaller cable to slip and hang loose. Then, the tellies will catch this and make a huge mess. Be carefull with overmast Hyd hoses as aftermarket guys want to push their "thinner,stretchy" cables that also slip through a 7400's clamps.
Too thin OM cables or hoses will loosen and cost you over $1000 in parts and labor. By the way, first time doing an overmast hose or cable on a 7400 might take you an entire day. Good luck!

you can clearly see that black and blue aren't hooked to anything. We got all functions retract, extend, tilt, and S/S.

That's weird. All of mine ('07s & '09s) have 6 wires connected at each end.
Beats me, all I know is that two wires on the terminal block(on top of the scissors) are just connected without being used, have you looked at the terminal? and yeah we have all functions. I could take a photo and show you if you'd like.
Do you have side shift, tilt and reach/retract? That accounts for 6 wires. I'm actually swapping all these out to 18-8 cable to power a wireless camera system so the operators can see the pallet before they pull it and make sure they have the proper upper clearance before putting pallets up.
Good day Joe not sure why your trucks need to use 6 wires, mine are 7400's and only use 4 and have two spares. I just checked on the carriage where the terminal blocks sits, yeah all six are connected to the terminal but if you look closely on the other end two have nothing attached to it, again it might be something different but who knows.
Yes, the orderpicker (5400, etc.,) come stock with 18-8 and generally only use 6 of the 8 wires but the 7400 comes stock with 18-6 cable.
I dunno what to tell you Joe but we have always used Raymond parts I can't confirm right now if there's one or two spares but that's how I fixed one last time with that tilt/extract problem, of course I ordered the cable but it has remained in our parts cabinet until the truck shows the problem again. Also as a side note to the OP check those pulleys they have some small pins and those occasionally fall out too causing the pulley to move around, damaging the cable.
Unless somebody has previously changed the cable it'll be 18-6 stock. I usually replace the 18-6 with 18-8 when I have a problem so that I have the option of the temp fix Fred is talking about.
FYI there should be a spare wire or two if I am not mistaken, I had that same problem a couple of times and usually the cable wears out around the pulley, I have used the spare wire and forklift hasn't come back to the shop. Good day rictech03
Golden rule # 1, keep it simple. I did as you suggested and I have intermittent continuity through three different wires with both ends unplugged and wires separated. Sounds like I'm replacing a cable this afternoon. Thanks a lot for the help, Happy Holidays.
Learning controls only helps with the travel and lift pot, not the directional aux switches. It sound like you have a shorted overmast cable to me. disconnect both end of the cable and ohm each wire to the rest. If you have continuity between wires you have a shorted cable and you're getting false signals/voltage to the wrong coils.
