Learning controls only helps with the travel and lift pot, not the directional aux switches. It sound like you have a shorted overmast cable to me. disconnect both end of the cable and ohm each wire to the rest. If you have continuity between wires you have a shorted cable and you're getting false signals/voltage to the wrong coils.
