Discussion:
code 814

This lift has come in every few days for a different issue. The battery does get changed out of the lift and I have jumped in another battery during the troubleshooting. It first came in with a steering issue code. It ended up being the access5. Had that replaced and everything was fine. Then a couple days later it came in for code 814. I went to check the bdi settings and it wouldnt let me into traction setups on the handset. I replaced the access3 and it fixed theIissue. Now 3 days later it came in for code 814again. And I am at a loss. There is no voltage drop across the ed contactors. All the can lines all ohm out good. It codes out to 814 as soon as the lift is turned on.

I know this is an old thread but wanted to share a note.

SP3450H
My problem was 814 @ power up. MRC1 was not powering up & ED2 not closing. Had already checked off the two 814 steps in the book. OK

MRC1 was not getting B+ at CA402-14. This comes from CA212-8 (no B+ @ CA212-8 either). Following the dist board diag this power comes from the bank of caps bott right center of board.

Luckily I have an old dist board with other issues to swap in for test. Problem resolved!

-Yes, K2 was checked
-Yes, All Connections/plugs were checked.

Confirmed by reinst. orig board and problem returned.

Update: Uppon inspection of old dist board I found the solder point of the large coil (bottom center) next to CR7 had broke. For whatever reason this board DID NOT have the white silicone on the coil and caps like most current dist boards have now. I re-soldered the landing point and tested the board. No fail! :)

It's all just nuts n' bolts.
any time I see an electric forklift throwing "wifs" (weird intermittent failures) I also insist that the customer allow us to get all the corrosion out from under the battery compartment, replace any power cables with cracked or corrosion soaked insulation and add an anti-static/ground strap (especially if this unit does not have a black rubber traction tire anymore) if they want to expect any sort of warranty.
When you say "all the lines ohm out good" are you referring to all the power cables having greater than 100k ohms resistance between the conductor and the frame of the truck when the battery is removed? or are you saying all of the power cables have proper continuity between expected connections?

"it's not rocket surgery"
Event Code 814
Access 3 communication error.
Steering, traction and lift disabled.
Step 1: Check condition of battery and cable connections.
Low or poor battery condition and/or cable connections
can cause this event.
Step 2: Check BDI settings. Discharging the battery
below recommended level can cause this event.

Fact of the week
Brothers Adolf ("Adi") and Rudolf ("Rudi") Dassler split their shoe company after WWII due to a bitter feud, and established the rival companies of Adidas and Puma. Their personal animosity and business rivalry divided their German hometown Herzogenaurach. The town became known as "the town of bent necks" due to the intense loyalty to each brand.
