Have a unit coding 5:184 with the odd 5:385(which isn't in the manual). Changed steer angle sensor on Friday, all is good. But code is back today. I also have tried a new steer motor complete which helped nothing. Screen 4 item 5 not switching, 48 volts between B17:1 and B17:3 but also 44 volts between B17:2 and chassis.
HELP!!

Thanks Forkingabout !! That's good to know. I kinda thought that B17:2 to chassis was not a relevant test after I wrote it, so I re-installed the sensor plugged it in fired up the truck and back probed wire at B17:2 and battery negative, I got a constant 48 volts, through a full 360 turn steer event. I figure it's got to switch on and off at some point ? Also If I am right then my new sensor crapped out early? And yes Jim, thought about radial bearing also but end of sensor is unscathed, and clean, and final drive has no real play at all, as far as the radial bearing.
Appreciate all the help.
RRE will always show voltage on the chassis when measured with a test meter - its just a quirk of there design.
Its only when theres enough voltage to light a lamp that you need to worry.
Error code 5:181 was changed to 5:385 a couple of years back & is in the current RRE manual.
Hello
Sounds like you've got a worn radial bearing, taking out the sensor.
The battery voltage seen on B17:2 is there through a full 360 degree steer. It should drop off for half? of the 360 degrees steer? It's a new sensor, but they can be faulty I guess. Had the software updated but didn't help. I will try another sensor.
Hi This is the problem with Battery only.. Just replace the battery and check..
Good Luck..
