Discussion:
CODE #24

I'm working on a crown sp 3020-30. While pluging truck from forward to reverse sometimes a code 24 will come up. The truck glides to a stop. There's no code 24 in the book. Changed out the f and r contactor but no luck. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Normally code 24 does point to a problem with the forward or reverse contactor but it is possible that a different contactor could be the problem it is possible that the 1a contactor or regen contactor cables to drive motor or power steering contactor could cause code 23 or 24.Also if truck uses field contactor that could cause problem check all the contractors and ohm them out.

I have changed the traction fuse, directional contactors and checked the wiring to the traction card. It still shows code 24. Should I try changin the traction card?

It looks like you solved the problem about six weeksa ago, but...
I had this one SP3020-30, intermittent code 24, 41, etc., but especially 24, for the longest time. Truck had new F/R contactors. Troubleshooting did not find problems with contact tips, coils, wiring, cables, motor, etc. Blamed problem on unsatisfactory battery condition. Batteries were serviced, but the machine still had problems. One day traction fuse blew. Changed fuse. Have not heard of trouble on that machine since. Now I make extra certain to check fuses for voltage drop under load first before I start busting my brain looking for problems that aren't there.
Your results may vary.

The sp does have the GE contact assembly. I tried two different assemblies with the same result, the truck rolls to a stop and has to be turned off and back on to travel again. So far no problems with the other drive motor in it. Thanks for the ideas.

I would check the F/R contactor for mechanical binding. if your unit has the Curtis/Albright contactor, you might want to upgrade to the GE contactor using Kit#125208

The battery tests fine. It had a new battery in it today and the truck failed again code 24 while platform was all the way lowered and operator plugged truck from reverse to forward. I swapped out the drive motor considering it only does this while plugging. We'll see what happens tomorrow

Use a Bigger Hammer
Test the battery,under-a-load. While having your volt meter connected to the battery, raise the mast,at full speed, and watch the voltage. Does it drop below 20 volts?

and when you say "changed out the F&R contactors" did you replace the whole assembly, or did you replace the tips?

"it's not rocket surgery"
You're on the right track. Does it do it worse, while raising the plateform?
