Model Clark CGC 25
serial # C365L-0087-9393
This is a strange one to me....customer says at times the truck won't restart and after the remove the tank LP couple and bleed the pressure from the line it will start.....
I have replaced the Model J Vaporizor and the Lockoff and solenoid and also the Beam Vacuum safety switch I also did a tune up on it...Cap,rotor,plugs and wires but the truck still has this intermittent no start unless you depressurize the line then reconnect it...had it happen with me today as I was installing the Lockoff and safety vacuum switch......started right up fine...ran it for 5-8 minutes...shut it off and after about 5 minutes tried starting again with a no start....depressurized the line and took some rolling over but it did start....anyone ever run into this....should of thought to check to see if spark was good when it wouldn't start but every time purging the line it starts???????

Just learned something new
I did have to install a second regulator on this truck after I replaced the first(old) one that was gummed with tar....one I installed was on about a week then started blowing raw fuel to the mixer....if it does it again I will start stocking the COBRA refs on my van and NOT the model j
I never had an issue w/ the regulators that quickly
I've taken apart these new model j's to see what the problem is & it seems they've stopped using spring metal on the primary pressure control reed. The old reeds were made of a spring metal which- when removed from the regulator- would still be straight & would flex under pressure (even when the regulator was old & full of LP tar). These new reed valves come out bent, the little square rubber "gasket" missing or falling off, & the reed itself isn't flexible- even when the regulator is relatively new & within it's time frame for being returned under warranty.
I was so tired of replacing them under warranty that I ate the warranty on one & took it apart & the above is what I found. The Cobra regulator does away with the reed valve assy & has a more conventional spring & valve assy.
I think bleeding the lp w/ a restart is coincidental, perhaps the carburator is the culprit, but I think its an electrical problem.
we have also been having trouble with new model J regulators they seem to give too much fuel I take the hose off at the intake and try to start, also see how cold the regulator is getting when you start cranking-the last one I had was freezing even with good antifreeze in it
kevin- I've run into this- I've stopped using the Model J for this reason- I've been changing over to the Cobra regulator as I service the Impco systems- have had no problems with the Cobra regulator.
