Discussion:
clark CF40B power steering leaking right after turn off

I have an old clark cf40b and I noticed power steering fluid under it, alot. What's happening is that when the engine runs evrything works fine, but once I shut off the engine the fluid comes out tru the cap under pressure, i can hear it hissing. What's causing this?
I topped it off and again did the same thing. It has the power steering pump which is in the end of the alternator.
Any input is appreciated.

The p/s pump is faulty & pulling air in from around the shaft that drives the pump. I don't believe any kits are available to rebuild the pump- a replacement pump would be needed.

Where is this air coming from, It's not puking it out while the engine runs even if I turn it all the way left or right but the moment I stop the engine it spills out and it's foamy.
There is only one hose comming out of this pump going to the cylinder I guess, so where's the air coming from??
Thanks

Is the oil that overflows the resivour foamy? the theroy of overfilling os ok but it would overflow the tank when you turned the steering to the small side of the cylinder,it would overflow at that time even if the engine was running.sounds like your *** air,if the oil is foamy after the engine is shut off and pukes the resivour its air.

You can't fill that tank all the way because the level changes as you steer one way or the other. When the cylinder is extended all the way it has more fluid in the cylinder tube than when it is retracted with the shaft inside the tube so the level in the tank goes up and down. If you fill the power steering tank all the way it will "push" some of the oil out of the cap.
