Centralized PM scheduling and centralized selling of PM follow up

Has anyone had had success using a centralized PM scheduling system? One where you have one person in one location trying to schedule PMs with customers accross several states and then use that same person to sell the follow up work from the PM? We have thought about doing this but wonder if it takes away from our service managers ability to build a realasionship with the customers in his area. What happens when the schedule breaks down how do you keep the tech working?

Wireless hour meter tracking technologies example of who uses it

Tracking service and preventative maintenance on Material handling equipment in a million square foot facility, when the equipment fitted with our smartkii wireless hour meter enters the wireless zone of the mounted interrogator that has been connected to any local PC, all of your equipments meter usage information is automatically uploaded into the Windows Application. This allows for real time status of all of your companies service requirements as well as providing complete reports being sent to multiple departments, giving your company the real time stats that are almost imposable to get with an employee with a pen and paper.

I am often reminded that a -team- will almost alway best the same number of individual efforts, no matter what location or how close to each other.

I am pretty sure, to be more likely to be successful, -it- is better done as a team effort, whatever -it- is.
we have loads of wonderful modern collaboration tools, and while some managers can not see past a "K.I.S.S." method of mangelment, for themselves, they might find, with a little help in the IT budget, that they don't HAVE to always be the _first_ step in generation of quotes or dispatch.
