I am not sure how the axle is secured on this truck, but i have had problems with some Cat machines where the axle wears in the holder but the back plate is bolted to the axle holder. This leaves the drum not lining up with the backplate and shoes. check that there is no movement up and down in the axle relative to the backplate.

looks like the drum has been rubbing on the backing plate for some time. We have checked and double checked part #'s and compared old and new shoes. It seems like the axle is pushed back for some reason????? A head scratcher.
