Hi all,
I have just bought a very rundown and unloved Toyota Forklift. I think it is a 2FG20 but I am not sure.
The plate has the following stamped on it:
42-2FG20
40-2FG20-61901
118 IN
4000 LBS
7250 LBS
All the legends are in Japanese so I'm guessing the first line is the model no, second serial, third ???length???, forth lift weight, fifth gross weight.
Can someone shed some light on what the exact model number is, so I can look for a manual. Also how do you tell what year it was made?
It has some cylinder leaks so I will need to buy some seals and get those fitted. Brakes fade they will need looking at.....so a service manual would help, but so far I have not found one, not sure if I am using the correct search terms though hence the query on the model number.
Any help is hugely welcome as this is virgin territory for me.

I asked my father. He is retired but remembers a few things still... dexron Atf.
Can anyone tell me what Transmission fluid I should use please.

Thanks Partsguy5,
I have contacted a Toyota agent here in the UK for the parts, my issue is doing the Brakes. I have done lots of drum brakes in the past, but on cars. I have researched the Internet for over a week, and found similar brake systems but nothing that looks the same. It would help to get even an extract of a similar forklift service manual, so I can read the info and understand any subtle differences.

You are going to be hard pressed to find a manual for this truck being that it is a second generation, meaning it was the second production run from when Toyota started building trucks. You will most likely have to call a local Toyota dealer and tell them what you need.
Hi BBforks, It's not a grey import, I've established that. I have scoured the Internet and have yet to find any specific details on the Items I need to repair. Anyone have this vehicles manual?
Alastair
Not sure of the brake issue but the grey market thing is a HUGE issue here in the states. All is good unless someone gets hurt on/around the forklift. Not sure of the laws on your side of the pond but i think it's worth your time to find out.
Well I tried bleeding the Brakes new fluid and adjusting the handbrake and none of that makes any difference. i am going to have to service the brakes, any one have a service manual who could send me the pages? I think I will need to replace the shoes, but wont know until im in there.
I see frome one of the youtube vids that there might be some specific tools needed. It would be useful to know in advance what is needed.

Doh! - that was stupid of me, 118 being the lift height makes much more sense! Any Idea on date of manufacture?

Not sure on the grey Import here is a Pic of the plate. My memory of the plate contains more Japanese that is actually on there:

How similar will the 2FG30 be? I see there is a Service manual in the states for sale.
The parts that I need to look at are the master cylinder, tilt cylinder and the Brakes.Perhaps if some one has the Service manual thay could let me have copies of these.

The actual model is the 42-2FG20 this is a second generation truck. You are going to be really hard pressed to find a parts or service manual for this truck. Toyota does not even print them any more so hopefully someone here might have one or can send you sections of it. If the data tag is all in Japanese you most likely have what they call a gray market truck that was produced in Japan and only for Japan so even if you do get the parts manual the parts may not be the same as what it on the truck.
The 118 is how high the forks go up. Your other guesses are right.
