You may want to verify a few things before you go headlong into this project.
To begin a side shift hydraulic function is consider a low hydraulic oil volume function versus a paper roll clamp which is consider a high volume. Depending on the manufacturer & model of truck you have. When a side shift is used some will install restrictors to reduce the volume of oil delivered to the side shift cylinder or they will have a low volume valve section compatible with low volume attachments. Secondly, the hosing & pulleys maybe size for a low volume attachment like a side shift - typically #4 hoses, where as paper roll clamps commonly use #6 or #8 hosing to delivery satisfactory performance (speed of operation).
I suggest you first contact the attachment manufacturer to help you with what they require as far as oil delivery (GPM) & then the truck manufacturer/dealer to sort out the valve, hosing and pulley requirements.
Yes you can use a special solenoid valve to operate the 2 functions of the clamp with just 1 set of hoses from the side shifter that has been removed. If your last question is about lifetime of the solenoid valves, the ones I've seen don't seem to have any problems.
