Engine Expo 2015
Stuttgart, Germany - 16th to 18th June 2015
Exhibition / trade show

Engine Expo is full of innovations and new materials, not least for the next generation of industrial vehicles.
Be there to see companies showing new concepts including counter-gravity investment castings for diesel engines, prototyping systems and literally thousands of camshafts and camshaft designs from some of the world's leaders in this area!

Some technologies and companies you may like to see:
Counter-gravity castings
Hitchiner Manufacturing will showcase its counter-gravity investment casting technology at this year?s Engine Expo.
This counter-gravity investment casting uses centrifugal force to enable the production of very high- quality turbo wheels in Inconel 713C alloy, meeting increasing durability demands, especially for heavy-duty diesel engine applications.
The company says this technology allows high-quality and near-net-shape castings to be created while allowing designers the freedom to create parts that can perform highly engineered casting within a tightly constrained environment, such as found with VVA rocker arms that perform switching or two-step functions.
Hitchiner plans to display castings including variable valve actuation rocker arms, GDI fuel rail components and heavy-duty turbo wheels for applications that require superior quality. The process is achieved via metallurgical cleanliness, which provides unique fatigue properties for demanding valvetrain components that need a high stiffness-to-inertia ratio.
The company?s work with fuel-rail manufacturers has resulted in the development of robust, near- net-shape castings in stainless steel that are cost effective and able to handle the ever-increasing fuel pressures associated with direct-injection technology.

Engine components made from powder metal
Engine Expo 2015 exhibitor GKN Sinter Metals is a development partner of one of the world?s largest producers of precision powder metal products.
During Engine Expo 2015 GKN will present a range of its high-performance products, including VVT, VCT, camshaft components and main bearing caps (MBC).
Main bearing caps are used in piston engines to secure the crankshaft to the engine block. GKN pioneered the PM main bearing cap, and introduced the nearest-to-net-shape ?ready to install? engineered MBC to the market. By focusing on improved materials and advanced designs, GKN has helped many customers optimize their engines and realize the most competitive, highest- performance, lightest-weight solution.
Antonio Casellas, vice president of GKN Sinter Metals Global Product Management, said: ?Powder metallurgy is a green and environmentally friendly process with almost 100% material utilisation. GKN has developed a near-net-shape production process of MBC without any machining. Our net shape design ensures maximum material savings of more than 30% in comparison with the cast-iron MBC process.?
Among the company?s core competences are the manufacturing of highly complex sintered components by classical powder pressing and metal injection moulding, as well as powder forging and the production of sintered filters and bearings.
