Sormat Oy, located in Finland, produces and markets fastening gears and fixings for the construction industry. Sormat chose Rocla's automation solution for its routine transportation needs between production and flow-through storage.Sormat decided to automate a routine step in its process, transportation of the finished goods from a production line to an intermediate depot. An automated guided vehicle carries euro-pallets from a fully automated production line to a flow-through shelf with a max. height of 4.5 m. From the flow-through shelf, the pallets are carried by a stock worker either to the stock or for loading.
Pallet transfer by Rocla AGV in Sormat's warehouse | An additional reason for the automation was that production is performed in 3 shifts, where as stocking is done in only 2 shifts. During the night, the automated guided vehicle carries the pallets to be transported by the morning shift.
"Rocla's automated guided vehicle has proven to be an excellent investment. The work phase carried out by the vehicle between the production line and the warehouse is new, and automation has proven the best solution. The system has performed reliably. You could compare the AGV to a Swiss clock - it works like a charm," explains Sormat's Logistics Manager Matti Nuorela. |
Rocla AGV was equipped with Sormat's brand covers for value-added brand recognition. The possibility of increased production in the future has also been taken into account: With a small adjustment, the automated guided vehicle can lift to more than 5 meters if the need arises for an additional shelf.
Mr. Nuorela is proud of their modern production plant: "Somebody might think we are a small company to buy an AGV system, but we performed very careful calculations before hand. The results show that the payback time is surprisingly short. Therefore, the investment in automation is very cost-effective for us."
