Global industrial-tyre manufacturer Solideal Tire reduced production in its factories for four days after the Asian tsunami, to help ease stress on traumatised employees.
Solideal, which has a workforce of more than 5000 people, has most of its manufacturing plants located in Sri Lanka.
The company said there was no damage to its factories but shareholders had decided to "ease the stress" on employees traumatised by the tragedy.
"Our supply chain is designed to withstand supply shortages and demand spikes many times worse than a four-day disruption," Solideal said in a statement.
The company has taken the following actions to assist tsunami victims:
* Establishing and operating crisis centres in temples;
* Sending medicines to hospitals and helping to care for the wounded;
* Organising doctors to attend to emergencies; and
* Organising basic sanitation facilities.
Solideal North America has also established the Sri Lanka Tsunami Support Fund and said it would match all public donations.
