Correct placement of wheel chocksSafe Work Australia has launched a new safety campaign aimed at reducing the number of roll-away accidents involving forklifts, cars, trucks, tractors and trailers.
“Vehicle roll-aways result in a significant number of serious injuries and fatalities in Australia each year,” the safety authority says in a statement.
These accidents can happen at worksites, in car parks and maintenance yards or when a vehicle is parked on the side of the road.
Safe Work Australia has published a fact sheet which includes information on who has legal obligations in relation to vehicle roll-aways.
“Identifying the hazards and risks associated with roll-aways in the workplace is an important first step to meeting duties under the model workplace health and safety laws,” the fact sheet says.
The Prevention of Vehicle Roll-aways and Safe Immobilisation fact sheet can be downloaded from the Safe Work Australia website.
