Omega Lift Manufacturing secured a multi-machine deal with
Xstrata for underground material handling machines (UG Series) and is on track for delivery in May 2008.
The
16,000 lb. UG Series machines have been designed and engineered based on the
robust MEGA Series platform boasting a T32000 transmission and 6-cylinder Perkins Turbo Diesel engine. The machines will be working underground in very harsh conditions: ambient temperatures of 420C, highly acidic environments and severe and constant grades.
The
UG Series machines are equipped with aircraft-grade electrical systems to combat acidity, specially routed exhaust systems and catalitic air purifiers to scrub emmisions, independant fail-safe braking systems and specialized fire protection systems due to the enclosed shafts in which they will be working.
The UG Series follows a history of Omega Lift forklifts known for their strength, durability and rugged construction, features that are "perfect for the rigors and extreme demands of the underground mining environments where these machines will be working" states Greg Pannia, Omega Lift's Operations Manager.
This exposure will increase Omega Lift's rapid expansion into the global marketplace. "We are extremely excited about the new market frontiers that Omega Lift is entering with our
UG Series. This machine has been re-tooled from the ground up to offer the mining community a strong and durable underground material handling solution" states Nick Acocella, the company's Factory Sales Manager.
Xstrata is a globally diversified mining group with operations and projects that span 18 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Germany, New Caledonia, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Tanzania, the USA and the UK.
"Omega Lift was chosen by Xstrata because of our design and engineering expertise, our proven track record in manufacturing rough-terrain equipment and our testing capacities and adherence to stringent regulations", says Greg Pannia.
The
UG Series machines will be support Xstrata's underground material handling operations.
