Marengo, Illinois - September 2006. Nissan Forklift is pleased to announce the approval of Foreign Trade Zone status. The new Foreign Trade Zone, a sub zone of the Foreign Trade Zone at the Chicago-Rockford International Airport, will allow Nissan Forklift to streamline the customs process, and reduce or eliminate duties or tariffs on parts that it imports, in addition to completed machines it exports.

In a ceremony at the Marengo, Illinois production plant, Nissan Forklift executives met with U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary David Spooner, who administers the Foreign Trade Zone program, and U.S. Representative Don Manzullo, R-Illinois, Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Small Business. "This new Foreign Trade Zone sub zone will help Nissan Forklift and its suppliers better compete in the global marketplace and help increase the market share of the company's forklifts sold in the U.S. and abroad," Manzullo said. "It will help Nissan Forklift and the local suppliers grow their businesses and create more jobs for needy workers in northern Illinois." "It's a great tool for manufacturers to keep jobs here instead of sending them abroad," Spooner said.
