Konecranes VLC has won a EUR6 million (USD6.4 million) four-unit order for rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG) from Mexico's second-largest port, Operadora Portuaria de Manzillo (OPM).

Significant growth at OPM, which is run by TMM Puertos y Terminales SA, has seen the port win government permission to add a 500-metre quay and a 12-hectare yard expansion.

OPM has operated Konecranes RTGs since 1998. The new RTGs will be manufactured in Finland and arrive fully erected in July. The 16-wheel RTGs can lift 50 tonnes and have a lifting height of 59 feet (18 metres) and a span of 75 feet (23 metres).

"This repeat order shows the competitiveness of our design and we look forward to seeing the RTG becoming the preferred choice among terminal operators," Konecranes VLC managing director Mikko Uhari said.

Konecranes VLC is part of the KCI Konecranes Group's special cranes business and specialises in port, terminal and shipyard cranes.
