Nissan UK appoints AITT for training

Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK (NMUK) has appointed AITT (Association of Industrial Truck Trainers) as its new training provider.

NMUK employs 6,000 people at its Sunderland site where it manufactures the Nissan vehicles, with training for its 1,012 forklift drivers, 274 MEWP operators and 1,210 tow tractor operators delivered in-house by 32 instructors and two Cat-4 tutors.

GTC training controller Craig Smith led the process to identify the best training for NMUK’s staff and explains switching to AITT followed a lengthy investigative process.

“I was particularly impressed by its policy of using Training Standards Advisors (TSAs) to monitor instructor courses as a way of maintaining standards and improving delivery techniques,” Smith explains.

“Alongside that, the AITT training materials are well set out and easy to read, making them much better than those supplied by our previous provider …  and very good value.”

AITT is an independent, non-profit organisation which trains operators and instructors on industrial trucks and the standards set out in the Health and Safety Commission Approved Code of Practice (ACoP L117).
