Toyota’s electric ride-on stacker and the company’s delivery drone concept were among the winners of this year’s prestigious iF Design Awards.

An international jury of 132 design experts from 23 countries selected the 75 Gold Award winners, which included Toyota’s BT Staxio li-ion-powered ride-on stacker.

“Much smaller and more manoeuvrable than a forklift, this electro-powered stacker is a masterpiece of ergonomic design,” iF says. “Well-resolved details and subtle use of curved forms and colours add richness and humanity to this most industrial of products.”

Other Gold Award winners included the iPhone 15 Pro, the Thule Urban Glide 3 all-terrain stroller, the Lohler Loope container-based sanitation toilet and Bigface Coffee packaging.

This year’s iF Design Awards received 10,800 entries from 72 countries.

Toyota also picked up a second award for its Urban Runner delivery drone developed by the design team at Toyota Material Handling Europe.

The delivery drone has on-board artificial intelligence system and camera technologies that allow it to learn to recognise people and objects and to make independent decisions and prioritise certain actions.

“The iF Design Awards are recognised as one of the most prestigious and relevant design competitions in the world,” says Magnus Oliviera Anderson, head of design at Toyota Material Handling Europe.

“To win a Gold Award, products must get through a rigorous two-stage selection process and we consider our success in winning not one – but two awards for our latest Staxio stacker and the Urban Runner drone – to be fitting international recognition of Toyota’s design and product expertise.”

The winners of the iF Design Awards were honoured at a ceremony at the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin on 29 April.
