Last week, a number of organisations marked International Women's Day, and while we didn't see much materials handling-oriented activity, we know that women make up a significant proportion of personnel in the industry.
Indeed, two of the three appointments reported in this week's Movers and Shakers are female.
Forkliftaction is a female-led organisation and women outnumber men in our staff roster.
A large proportion of the people we deal with in marketing, sales and public relations are also female - but so too are some industry leaders, especially in family-owned businesses.
We couldn't find any reliable statistics for female participation in materials handling manufacture, distribution and sales, but we can cite Gartner findings that women now make up 41% of the supply chain workforce. However, Gartner reports that the glass ceiling is very evident in logistics, with fewer than 17% of chief supply chain officer roles filled by women.
Maybe that will change as awareness rises, labour shortages continue, and more women look for opportunities around forklifts.
