With just three months until The Big Logistics Diversity Challenge, leading organisations committed to supporting the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda explain why they are supporting the high-profile event.
The Big Logistics Diversity Challenge (BLDC) has been specifically designed to promote the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across the logistics and warehousing industries and how diversity can be tackled collaboratively and collectively through physical, mental and skills-based team-building challenges.
The event is an opportunity for organisations to share best practice, network and help shape a more inclusive sector, while recognising and rewarding employees with an adventurous day of fun.
More than 300 industry personnel have already signed up to participate in this year's BLDC and there is a growing number of supporting organisations recognising the event's credentials.
The Road Haulage Association (RHA) and IWLEX are both new supporting organisations for 2023 and will each be entering a team.
"We recently launched our five-year strategy on ‘Equity at Work’ which is focused on ensuring inclusion, fairness, and consistency in all that we do," explained Laura Taylor, HR Director at the RHA.
"We know our industry needs to attract more underrepresented talent to be able to keep on doing what we do and therefore getting ED&I on the agenda within every organisation is so important.
“We are proud to be supporting the BLDC as part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
“Whilst we are just at the start of our ‘Equity at Work’ journey, our long-term aspiration is to be able to inspire others in this area.”
To be involved in a day celebrating ED&I with other like-minded organisations is really exciting and we can't wait to get involved."
Justin Craig, IWLEX CEO added: “IWLEX is proud to support and partner with the BLDC as we have a shared purpose to ensure that the industry in which we operate is inclusive and diverse.
"IWLEX is a purpose focused organisation founded on six core pillars, inclusion (which incorporates diversity) is one of them.
"We aim to promote and encourage and engender positive change by partnering with organisations driving forward activity that support our pillars.
"The BLDC has been specifically designed to promote the importance of EDI across the logistics and warehousing sectors so is the perfect partner to ensure IWLEX makes a positive impact in this area."
The Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB) has been an ardent BLDC supporting organisation and fielding teams since 2021.
“It is so important to attract more diverse talent," explained RTITB Marketing and Sales Manager, Jordan Dalziel.
"Diversity brings greater creativity and varied perspectives; our industry needs this to prepare for a sustainable future and resolve skills shortages.
"That’s why we are proudly supporting the BLDC. It is such a fun day and a wonderful way of highlighting the benefits of equality and inclusion."
Multi-media specialists Nimble Media Ltd is once again partnering with Talent in Logistics (TiL) to stage this year's BLDC at Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire, on 22 June.
As in previous years, the 2023 BLDC chosen charity is the international development organisation, Transaid.
