Edmonton's Food Bank is raising funds for a replacement forklift |
Edmonton's Food Bank is attempting to raise CAD25,000 to replace its workhorse forklift.
An appeal on the charity's website says: "Inside our busy warehouse, equipment is fundamental to quickly moving food out the door and into the hands of those who need it most. Unfortunately, one of our forklifts recently broke.
"Forklifts keep us nimble and allow us to react quickly to needed changes. Now we need your help to quickly get us back to running at full capacity," officials say.
The charity uses its forklift to transport pallets of donated and gleaned food out of trucks and into the warehouse. From there, the food is sorted, inspected, repackaged (if necessary) and placed into hampers which are sent back out into the community.
"A broken forklift definitely slows us down and keeps us from doing our best work. Please help us!"
So far, the group is halfway to replacing its forklift.
Alberta's Food Bank provides food and services to empower individuals struggling with food security and poverty.
