Medley Material Handling Co has purchased the operations of BES Rentals & Hydraulic Sales in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Terms were not disclosed.

Medley is operating the Carlsbad location - its eighth in the US south-west - as a new branch. BES has primarily been an equipment rental store and a hydraulic sales and repair facility.

In the Carlsbad market, Medley, a longtime Yale dealer, plans to rent and sell new and used Yale forklifts along with Genie and JLG telehandlers, rough-terrain forklifts and scissor and boom lifts. Medley also offers backhoes, skid steers, wheel loaders, pressure washers, metal shipping storage containers and hydraulic equipment sales and services.

Key contacts in Medley's Carlsbad location are Jerry Fox, branch manager; Tammy Harkness, hydraulic co-ordinator; Ken Karl, rental co-ordinator; Erin Fox, service co-ordinator; and Terry Larson, parts co-ordinator. "Medley welcomes the whole Carlsbad crew," says Scott Davis, general manager of Oklahoma City-based Medley.

"The rental fleet consists of over 400 pieces of mobile rental equipment and another 250 rental containers," Davis notes. "The hydraulic department is stocked with all the machinery to make new hoses and the fabrication of brand-new hydraulic cylinders and casings. It also has the ability to bench test all cylinders once a repair/repack has been made."

Medley Material Handling has a total of 205 employees, including five in Carlsbad.

In December, the firm opened a west Texas branch in Midland after relocating the operation 12 mi. (19.2 km) from Odessa. A ground-breaking for the 14,000 sqft. (1,008 sqm) facility was held in April. "(The facility offers a) generous amount of space for a maintenance area, a warehouse-show room area for in stock new and used equipment, a massive parts inventory and plenty of space to accommodate office personnel and sales staff", says Mark Medley, president.

Separately, Medley Material Handling has purchased land and plans to construct a new facility in Amarillo, Texas. A fire in March 2012 destroyed the branch's existing building, and Medley moved the business across the street on a temporary basis.

Other branches are in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Lubbock and El Paso, Texas; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Joe Medley and his wife, Francis, established the business in 1941 as the Joe Medley Scale Co in Oklahoma City and transitioned over the years into the materials handling equipment market, eventually changing its name to Medley Material Handling Co. In 1956, Medley began a relationship with Yale.

Bill Medley followed his parents into the business, and now his son, Mark Medley, is president, and his daughter, Michelle Medley, is an employee in the fleet department. Mark Medley has two children also in the business: Ryan Medley is corporate sales facilitator and Marysa Medley is sales co-ordinator.
