Michael Heidemann of Zeppelin is impressed with bauma 2013. "From the first day, the booth of Zeppelin and Caterpillar was almost overrun with visitors."
Over half a million people from over 200 countries visited construction and mining expo bauma 2013 at the Messe München exhibition centre between April 15 and 21.

Organisers reported that international visitors accounted for a record proportion of the 530,000 show attendees. The 3,420 exhibitors came from 57 countries, helping the show break all previous records for exhibition numbers and exhibition space.

"This is very good for our industry in these turbulent times and it will certainly give it a boost," says Johann Sailer, chairman of the Construction Equipment and Building Material Machinery Association of the German Materials Handling Federation and president of the Committee for the European Construction Equipment Industry (CECE).

Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of Messe München, is also satisfied: "Our exhibitors were delighted with the quality of the visitors here and with the international spread represented among them. Good business has been done here ... The response this year has simply been outstanding."

The top 10 countries of origin among the visitors were Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Russian Federation, France, Netherlands, Great Britain, Sweden and Poland. Indonesia, bauma's partner country this year, was also strongly represented, with a high-ranking political delegation and around 800 visitors.

In total, 3,420 exhibitors - 1,346 from Germany and 2,074 from abroad - from 57 countries presented their latest products and innovations in construction and mining machinery at bauma 2013 in a record exhibition space of 570,000 sqm (6,135,428 sqft.).

Ron DeFeo, chairman and CEO of the Terex Corporation, was impressed with the show. "As the largest show in our industry, bauma represents a unique opportunity to meet with a multitude of our customers from around the world."

Johannes Weiermair, managing director of SBM Mineral Processing, is also pleased to have participated. "On the one hand, because of the truly world-spanning international scope among the visitors and on the other, because of the very high level of contacts."

Stefan Heissler, member of the Liebherr-International AG board of directors, says the show has been an "absolutely positive" experience for his company. "We welcomed customers from all around the world at our booths and we signed up lots of new orders. In some product sections, we exceeded our expectations by a long way."

Michael Heidemann, chairman of the management board of Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH, is similarly impressed. "From the first day on, the booth of Zeppelin and Caterpillar was almost overrun with visitors. We have sold more machines at bauma 2013 than ever before and have set a new record."

The show was just as successful for Chinese manufacturer XCMG, as its vice president, Yanmei Zhang, reported: "XCMG solicited orders with a total value of over EUR10 million (USD13.2 million) for its products which is around 120 units of machines. We had a good economic return on our investment in the show."

Italian telehandler manufacturer Magni Material Handlers exhibited at bauma for the first time. The company showcased a selection of machines from its two ranges, which comprise the rotating RTH models in the 18 to 30 m (59-98 ft.) sizes and the HTH heavy-duty, fixed-boom models with lifting capacities of 15, 25 and 30 T.

Jungheinrich's exhibition consisted of counterbalance trucks manufactured at the company's Bavarian-based plant in Moosburg. A special highlight involved a new electric counterbalance truck from model Series 5. The new EFG 535-550 was unveiled to the public at the show. Jungheinrich also showcased its ETV Q multi-directional reach truck at bauma 2013.

Hyster displayed its trucks for demanding applications, in particular from the 8-16 T series, at the stand where it was represented with German distributor Zeppelin. Specialist attachments used within the construction, mining and heavy industry sectors were also prominently displayed on the stand.
