The new Community Food Bank of Citrus County has purchased two new electric-powered materials handling units from the Tampa, Florida branch of Ring Power Lift Trucks.

The units are a sitdown Clark TMX15S three-wheel forklift and a Big Joe E30 pallet jack, each with a lifting capacity of 3,000 lb. (1,500 kg).

"That Clark truck was exactly the right truck for that customer in that application," says Joe DeJohn, Ring Power regional sales/branch manager. The facility's tight physical configuration was the driver.

The Clark forklift has a compact size and tight-ratio steering making it highly manouvrable. "The application chose the truck in a way," he notes. "They wanted a sitdown, and they wanted to go outside to unload trailers and flatbeds."

Ring Power "worked to be as aggressive as possible with pricing because it is a non-profit organisation," DeJohn says.

"It is new equipment in a new facility" in Homosassa, says Rob Brown, Ring Power product support sales representative.

The food bank took occupancy of the 7,200 sqft. (669 sqm) facility in November and started operations in February, initially with two old manual pallet jacks and a leased forklift. The recent arrival of a refrigerated truck enables the agency to efficiently pick up donated food.

The Homosassa site supports as many as 30 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters and is considering 10 to 13 feeding agencies as additions for its services.

In early 2012, discussions took place with Feeding America Tampa Bay on possibly establishing a redistribution organisation in Citrus County. Instead, local supporters moved to create the Community Food Bank of Citrus County.

"We commend the Community Food Bank of Citrus County for their selfless efforts to end hunger within the county and look forward to a continued relationship with them," Ring Power Lift Trucks says in a blog posting.

Ring Power Lift Trucks, the forklift and materials handling division of Jacksonville, Florida-based Ring Power Corp, has 10 forklift branches in Florida.
