A forklift has come to the rescue after a prize-winning Clydesdale horse panicked and got wedged in its carriage.

Owner James McRitchie told the Forres Gazette he had feared for his beloved eight-year-old horse, Jeannie, when she collapsed in her trailer in a car park. After coming round moments later, she panicked and tried to bolt through a side door.

The horse, about 18 hands high and weighing one tonne, got trapped in the door, which is no more than 60cm wide.

The horse was sedated by a vet while efforts were made to free her. A forklift from a nearby factory was called in to help pull the horse free, and firefighters assisted with the rescue.

"She was wedged tight by her shoulders, and we had to put slings around her waist to lift and pull her at the same time," Mr McRitchie said.

Jeannie was eventually freed, and suffered only minor cuts.
