MSi-Forks' original Rock Hill facility |
MSI-Forks is developing a new site in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
MSI, a subsidiary of a United Kingdom-based company that also has a manufacturing facility in Brazil, has had a distribution site in Rock Hill since 1994 and a manufacturing operation since 2011.
The relocation is not without controversy, according to
The Herald.
The paper reports that while MSI-Forks has secured lucrative tax breaks from the York County Council, a larger business investment has been left waiting for an answer.
"The York County Council voted to advance a fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement with MSI-Forks," according to the report. "The business will see its property tax rate drop from 10% to 6% for the next 30 years on (the) new location the company is moving to near Rock Hill."
The council approved the MSI-Forks agreement unanimously. The company also will receive an additional 25% reduction on its property tax for five years. York County economic development officials expect job growth at the new site.
Meanwhile, council delayed a vote on a similar agreement for a new water park in the Fort Mill area.
The amusement park, Carowinds, which is split evenly between York County and Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, will have to wait at least two weeks to receive approval of its agreement, although the proposal already passed two preliminary readings by the council.
That project, according to the report, is worth USD25 million, although the value of the MSI development is not mentioned.
