Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. (MCFA), maker of CAT lift trucks, Mitsubishi forklifts and Jungheinrich products, joined other companies and community organisations around the United States in celebration of the fifth annual Manufacturing Day.
To mark the occasion, students from Northbrook High School in Spring Branch Independent School District visited MCFA to learn more about MCFA's manufacturing process and the wide range of career opportunities available in the industry.
During the visit, participating students toured MCFA's 800,000 sqft. (74,322 sqm) campus, observing the various components and job roles required to build a forklift, a product that touches nearly everything in a consumer's home today.
Manufacturing Day is a national event designed to build an interest in manufacturing careers among the future workforce. Finding skilled workers is a problem that many manufacturers continue to face due to the lack of knowledge and understanding of manufacturing environments.
"National Manufacturing Day is a great opportunity for MCFA and other manufacturers to showcase the importance of manufacturing and to raise awareness of the industry as a long-term career opportunity," says Jay Gusler, vice president of operations at MCFA. "A career in manufacturing can be very rewarding, because there is a strong element of pride in seeing your work come to life."
