Express delivery company TNT is building a 38,000 sqm facility near Melbourne Airport, with completion due in mid-2015.
The 'super-hub' is the largest transport and logistics facility in the company's global network and will operate as its Victorian head office and as a hub for other TNT depots in regional Victoria and Tasmania.
The new facility's state-of the-art automated parcel sortation system will be able to process up to 18,500 parcels per hour - a 60% increase on TNT Melbourne's current capacity.
TNT Australia's regional director, Southern Region, Rod Barnes, says the new depot should meet projected needs for at least the next 15 years.
