The expertise of the Concrete Grinding Group has brought significant increases in product handling efficiency at a massive new distribution centre opened by Ikea Iberica SA in northeast Spain.
The 75,000sqm building includes a 20,000sqm area that the original building contractor should have laid to DIN 15185 floor flatness standards to allow efficient operation of VNA fork lift trucks in 12-metre-high racking.
However, Maersk Logistics, who manage the building, found that the BT Rolatruc VNA trucks used in the warehouse could not operate at optimum speed, and a profileograph survey confirmed that the floor did not meet the DIN 15185 standard.
Using two LaserGrinder machines, Concrete Grinding formed two 380mm-wide wheel tracks in each of the 24 aisles to the required tolerances, completing one 126-metre-long aisle a day. A powerful vacuum system on the LaserGrinder machines minimised dust, so stock could be left on the racking without extra protection and the warehouse could continue to operate normally.
