Double-deep pallet racking
Double-deep pallet racking consists of two single racks that are placed back to back. Although it reduces the number of aisles required, this type of storage racking requires specialised equipment to access the back pallets.
KOOI® ReachForks allow the forklift operators to extend their forks so they can reach the pallets stored at the rear of the double-deep racking system. The ReachForks can be fitted with a range of options, such as a camera system and tilt indicator to make the process of double-deep pallet storage even more efficient.
It has become a very popular choice for “high throughput” operations and is ideal for cold stores, dry stores, and for storing multiple pallets of the same products. This method of pallet storage increases warehouse capacity by up to 40% compared to selective pallet racking.

Loading and unloading trucks
Loading and unloading a truck is still often done from two sides. This requires safety precautions to be taken since a heavy vehicle (the forklift) is being used to move loads. If the forklift has to make an emergency stop because someone suddenly appears in front of it, products may topple forward, causing severe injury to the person concerned. The area on both sides of the truck therefore needs to be cordoned off to prevent pedestrians or other vehicles from entering the immediate vicinity of the operation.
Space and time have become precious commodities, so they should both be used as efficiently as possible. This is where telescopic forklift forks come in. KOOI® ReachForks can extend the forklift forks, making it possible to load and or unload the truck from one side only.
The great advantage of this is that the forklift remains in view at all times. In addition, this method reduces the space needed for the process. The space saved can then be used for other things, such as additional pallet storage. Another plus point is that the truck can be unloaded or loaded more quickly because the forklift travels less distance. Time savings can be as high as ± 30%, or up to 50% if two pallets are handled simultaneously.
Cross-docking with extendable forks
Cross-docking is a process that entails unloading goods from an incoming truck and loading them directly onto an outbound truck with little or no need for storage time in between. This system speeds up turnaround times and reduces handling costs.
However, one of the challenges is dealing with various pallet sizes. The wide range of customers means there is a significant diversity in pallet sizes, including Euro pallets, block pallets and even uniquely sized pallets. Ideally, it should be possible to handle all pallets with the same type of forklift.
