Konecranes equipment features in two recent sizeable orders - one through Cooper Specialised Handling in the UK and another in the Middle East.

Cooper Specialised Handling, building on a relationship that dates back to 2008, has supplied 10 high-specification Konecranes forklifts to Bristol Port Company in a GBP1.5 million (USD2 million) order.

Chris Barnes, general manager at Cooper Specialised Handling, explains that after winning an initial deal to supply four Konecranes reachstackers in 2008, "we have worked closely with Bristol Port Company to fully understand and satisfy its handling requirements".

In order to complete this important contract and ensure a cost-effective handling solution, Cooper Specialised Handling held numerous meetings with the port before developing a specification that would satisfy its operational, safety and maintenance requirements.

The port purchased the forklifts outright and the equipment is covered by an extended warranty that will see Cooper's dedicated field-based engineering team provide support as well as ongoing servicing and maintenance for the reachstackers, which are a vital part of the port's 64-strong materials handling fleet.

Meanwhile, DP World has taken delivery of 13 Konecranes Empty Container Handlers at its flagship terminal in Jebel Ali, Dubai, UAE.

DP World operates 77 marine and inland terminals across six continents. Jebel Ali Port, operated by DP World UAE Region, is the largest container terminal in the Middle East and the flagship facility of DP World's portfolio. Expansions are currently under way, which will bring the total handling capacity to 22.1 million TEUs by 2018.

"The order demonstrates Konecranes' growing partnership with DP World globally and particularly in the Middle East. We are proud to be a supplier for DP World, a company who places a huge emphasis on quality and advanced technology," says Abilash Kuvvakkat, lift trucks sales manager - Middle East.

The model SMV 7/8 ECC 90 Empty Container Handler can lift up to seven containers high. All are equipped with Konecranes' new driver cabin, featuring increased visibility through lowered windows and eliminated corner posts.
