Japanese forklift exports rose 26.3% in April, compared to April 2003, to 3,335 machines.
Latest figures from the Japan Industrial Vehicles Association (JIVA), Japan's peak forklift body, show the April increase is the 10th consecutive month of export increases.
The total included 1,736 diesel forklifts and 950 petrol-powered machines. Total forklift production for Japanese manufacturers in April was 9,947 forklifts, up 20.3% on April 2003.
The JIVA report said domestic sales increased 12.4% to 5,471 forklifts, of which 1,597 had diesel engines and 2,482 units were electrically-driven. Figures for other classes were not available.
Exports of Japan-made forklifts totaleld 35,811 units in 2003, up 14.1% on 2002. Domestic forklift sales totalled 68,449 units, up 3.9%.
