Jøtul AS, one of Norway's oldest industrial businesses, has upgraded the materials handling fleet at its Fredrikstad manufacturing site with a Flexi G4 articulated forklift.
The Fredrikstad facility is important to Jøtul's cast iron stove and fireplace manufacturing business because it contains the moulds that are used during production. Jøtul wanted a forklift that could handle the high throughput of its production centre where mould changeover times are critical.
Jøtul overhauled its materials handling processes at Fredrikstad and introduced powered mobile racking at the site to create the stacking aisle in which the articulated forklift could operate.
The width of the stacking aisle was set at 2 metres. Jøtul says it is able to achieve the maximum number of pallet locations at its site by combining mobile racking with the articulated forklift.
The FlexiG4 supplied to Jøtul features a low quad mast with the same lift height as a triple mast, but shorter in the lowered position to overcome overhead clearance issues on the truck's route between the warehouse and the factory.
Narrow Aisle Flexi says the G4 has a unique "twin load wheel drive" that enables safe traction in all conditions, making it ideal for Jøtul's needs. The forklift also has the Narrow Aisle Safe Start system, which allows the operator to restart the truck and move up an incline without rolling back.
Jøtul has subsidiaries in t he US, France, Denmark, the UK, Spain, Italy and Poland and generates over 70% of its turnover from export.
