Hundreds of millions of dollars are pouring into the United States from some big hitters in the materials handling sector.

This week we bring news of a USD500 million factory being built in Texas by British equipment maker JCB.

The JCB cash splash follows announcements of Toyota Material Handling spending nearly USD100 million to build a new forklift plant in Indiana and Caterpillar investing USD90 million to upgrade two manufacturing facilities in Texas.

APM Terminals has also been on a multimillion dollar shopping spree, ordering 240 pieces of port equipment over the past few months. However, most of this cash isn’t heading to the United States but to equipment manufacturers in China.

We also have the latest in the quirky tradition of equipment naming competitions. Remember Boaty McBoatface? Well, this time round Craner Swift gets a mention!
