It will be interesting to see the participation numbers for ProMatDX, the virtual event held last week. The online show took place just over a year after MHI controversially decided to go ahead with its Modex event in Atlanta, while organisers of Germany's massive LogiMAT pulled the pin at the last minute and cancelled their exhibition.
After a year of cancellations and postponements, the future of the mega-shows remains in the balance. As we look ahead, there are very significant question marks over these events. When will international travel return? Will public health officials give the green light for mass gatherings? Are the vendors prepared to start investing in booths and sponsorships again? Will they see the need after adapting their marketing strategies and staging their own virtual events?
And, most importantly, will delegates see enough value in attending or will they be concerned about potential risks?
