International equipment rental and sales business Herc Holdings has announced the acquisition of California-based machinery and forklift sales company, Otay Mesa Sales.
The announcement was made in Herc Holdings first half 2024 results, garnering just two sentences.
“In July 2024, the Company acquired the assets of Otay Mesa Sales (‘Otay’) for approximately USD264 million,” Herc says.
“Otay was a full-service general equipment rental company comprising approximately 135 employees with four locations serving construction and industrial customers throughout the metropolitan areas of San Diego, California and Phoenix and Yuma, Arizona.”
The acquisition is being reported as the largest purchase in Herc Holdings’ history.
Florida-based Herc was spun out of automotive hire giant Hertz Global in 2016.
According to analysts, it is currently the third-largest equipment rental company in North America, with approximately 7,600 employees and 428 company-operated branches in the United States and Canada.
Herc’s rental fleet covers a broad spectrum of equipment from earth movers to forklifts.
Otay, headquartered in San Diego, California, describes itself as “a trusted source for industrial and construction equipment”.
It has operations in three sites in San Diego, and Phoenix and Yuma, Arizona.
Details about Otay’s integration into Herc have not yet been revealed.
