This week we get to know the new editor of Forkliftaction News, Barbara Adam, an experienced writer and editor whose career has spanned real-time business news, politics, industrial relations and even a stint as the managing editor of a lifestyle magazine.

FLA: What is the most significant change you have seen in business media in your time?

BA: I think the biggest change is how people access or consume media. You no longer rely just on print, radio or television to access news and information. People are now drawn to getting information (and mis-information, sadly) on so many different platforms: podcasts, reels, blogs, websites, TikTok and other social media. I think the sheer number of options and the unregulated nature of them all makes it even more critical for people to seek out reputable sources for their news. Outlets like Forkliftaction Media, which has a track record of providing independent news and information in a very niche field.

FLA: What excites you most about covering the materials handling market?

BA: It’s an exciting time for the industry with the rapid developments in artificial intelligence, automation and the global push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I think the materials handling industry, like many others, is transforming as it tackles these changes. I’m interested to see what innovations emerge in the coming years.

FLA: What is the biggest opportunity that you see in your new role as editor at Forkliftaction Media?

BA: I’m really looking forward to learning as much as I can about this industry. Materials handling is such a key part of the world economy, and the global pandemic and associated pressures brought about many changes. I’m looking forward to exploring this brave new world of safer and smarter materials handling.

FLA: Can you share one piece of information about yourself which would surprise our readers?

BA: I have a not-so-secret second career that began in Vietnam 10 years ago when my husband and I founded a street food tour company called Saigon Street Eats. Our business took a huge hit during the global pandemic but now we are slowly rebuilding as we try to juggle family life between Australia and Vietnam. The success of our little business can be wholly attributed to the fact that Vietnamese food is one of the world’s greatest cuisines!
