Rope and cable drums are heavy and bulky loads that have to be moved back and forth again and again during production. A pallet truck is often chosen to save valuable maneuvering space and weight. In comparison to a conventional forklift, the pallet truck does not have a counterweight and thus saves space and weight.

Cable and rope drums are available in a wide variety of diameters, widths and weights from 3,000 kg to 50,000 kg. The load can be picked up in different ways depending on the requirement and task of the truck. Based on a modular system, Genkinger-bAKA offers a complete product range for the safe and efficient handling of drums. Pedestrian devices are the first choice for maneuvering work, while ride-on devices are preferred for travelling long distances.

Most of the cable and rope drum transporters are now being equipped with radio remote controls to make work easier for the operator.

If the drum needs to be positioned precisely, the operator can stay aside the transporter for having a better visibility. If the operator is positioned right, he can operate the machine safely and set the drum down in a location outside the danger zone.

Transport of drums with different diameters

If the variation of the drums is very large, there is the option of installing so-called load flaps in the prism tines of the device and folding them out for small diameters. Another option is a frame with a smaller prism that is picked up by the pallet truck. A sensor recognizes the frame and automatically adjusts the lifting range so that the attachment does not touch the floor.

Rotating the drums for positioning or for winding partial lengths

This is also possible and often saves an additional stationary winding machine or the long way to it. This variant is used, for example, to pick ropes and cables quickly and easily. One vehicle picks up the full drum and a second vehicle winds the desired length onto an empty drum. From there, the consignment is then brought to the dispatch area without being reloaded and placed there on a pallet if necessary.

For further processing, for example to turn the cable end to the correct position, the lift trucks can be equipped with driven shafts in the prism. This makes work a lot easier and increases safety, because the heavy cable drum no longer has to be rolled into the correct position on the floor.

Genkinger-bAKA is specialized in the manufacturing of custom-made machines and small series and has extensive industry knowledge of many branches of the manufacturing industry.
