Various exhibitors displayed forklifts, telehandlers and other lifting appliances at construction expo bauma China 2014 last month. Manitou, Haulotte, Genie, Bobcat and SANY were among the companies at the event, which organisers say exceeded all expectations.
About 191,000 people from 149 countries and regions visited the four-day expo, which saw a 12% increase in international buyer visitors. About 180,000 people visited the show in 2012.
In total, 3,104 exhibitors from 41 countries displayed their products and services, a 14% jump from the previous expo. In 2012, there were 2,718 exhibitors from 38 countries.
Eugen Egetenmeir, managing director of organiser Messe München, was impressed by the visitors' enthusiasm. "After 12 years of [developing] bauma China, this show is now not only a platform for product presentation, but also a grand industry party for communication and co-operation for further growth."
Li Fangyu, vice president of marketing for China from Volvo Construction Equipment, praises the show: "bauma China 2014 is taking place in the midst of a recession in the construction machinery market. However, judging by the exhibitors and VIP customers we met here, the trade show is very encouraging."
After China, the top 10 visitor countries and regions were Russia, South Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia - in that order.
"bauma China remains a must in our event calendar, on a local level as well as on an international level, as we have customers from South-East Asia, India, the Middle East, South America, Africa and Russia," says Ulrich Reichert, CEO of Wirtgen China.
Qiu Debo, CEO of Lonking Holdings Limited, China, says: "As a long-time exhibitor (at) bauma China, I think it (has become) more mature and professional in recent years. I have attended many similar trade shows. I found that they had fewer visitors, and the exhibitors were also not as active as those of bauma China."
Lonking presented its four main product ranges at the show: the wheel loader, excavator, forklift and road roller. "For this exhibition, we prepared for over a year in order to attract professional visitors to our booth," Qiu says.
Lonking showed 10 forklifts at the show.
Zhao Xiangzhang, senior vice president of Sany Group, China, says the show was "extraordinarily popular as always". "We made 3,000 VIP customer badges in advance, but [on one day], we gave out 5,000. Among them, 800 are from the countries outside China including Germany, the USA, India, Brazil, the Middle East, Europe, Australia and South East Asia."
The event attracted 2,097 Chinese exhibitors. After China, the top five exhibitor countries were Germany, USA, Italy, South Korea and Japan. bauma China also featured nine national pavilions - from Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, Turkey, the UK and the US.
This year, for the first time, a business matchmaking system was implemented to facilitate contacts between exhibitors and visitors. Visitors were able to search detailed information the exhibitors had posted in the system, and thus target those exhibitors they were specifically interested in.
