Two forklift operators face a fine of up to USD73,000 |
Singapore has charged two Chinese migrant workers for demanding bribes as small as SGD1 (USD0.73), according to a
Reuters report.
The news agency reports that Chen Ziliang, 47, and Zhao Yucun, 43, both forklift operators, face a fine of up to SGD100,000 (USD73,000), prison for up to five years, or both.
It is alleged that Chen tried to obtain a bribe from truck drivers in exchange "for not delaying the collection of a container onto" their truck over a two-year period.
Zhao was charged for obtaining similar bribes over the course of more than three years.
The two workers were employed by a container company but authorities have not revealed further details.
Singapore is the seventh-least corrupt country in the world, according to Transparency International, the global anti-corruption coalition based in Berlin.
