A man who crashed into seven vehicles while speeding through York on a stolen forklift (Forkliftaction.com News, Issue 72) could be sent to a psychiatric hospital.

Raymond Anthony Wilson, 22, caused traffic chaos after stealing the Caterpillar forklift from a street in Bishophill last August. He was stopped only when forced off the A64 dual carriageway by police vehicles, said a Newsquest report.

Mr Wilson, who has been remanded in custody since his arrest, admitted to recklessly endangering 14 lives and causing criminal damage to six cars and a police van. Sentencing was adjourned until May 2.

Defence counsel told Newsquest they may seek a period of psychiatric confinement as an alternative to jail.
