Little River Boat Yard has added another forklift to assist with its customers' dry-stack storage needs.
Equipment dealer Martin Walter Co Inc of Norwell, Massachusetts delivered the new M2000S forklift during October.
Marine Travelift Inc manufactured the forklift at its facility in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
"Rack storage is rare in the north-east, and the Burtis family story is a good one," says Jack Anderson with the Walter firm. "In 1976, Bill, the father, bought a small marina and cottages, and then Jonathan, the son, moved to rack storage that helps provide security for the vessels from storms. And the yard still has a real family atmosphere with Jonathan's daughter, Jennifer, in the role as business manager."
Little River Boat Yard purchased a Travelift M2000 forklift from the Walter firm in 2002 to help manage yard operations. The marina's decision to add a M2000S allows the operators to double the performance and provide a backup during busier times.
The M2000S has a shorter wheelbase than the average 20,000 lb. (9,000kg) capacity forklift and permits an improved turning radius. An operator can store larger boats more efficiently.
Little River Boat Yard is a full-service marina on Seconsett Island in Mashpee with access to Waquoit Bay and Vineyard Sound.
In addition to four models of forklifts, Marine Travelift manufactures mobile boat hoists, self-propelled transporters and other marine lifting products. The firm was established in 1954 and has more than 3,500 units in service worldwide.
